EPISODE 1:
A GIANT IN HBCU BASKETBALL
CY ALEXANDER
Cy Alexander is a legendary HBCU Mens' Basketball coach who holds the all time winning record in HBCU history, and has coached at Howard University, South Carolina State, Tennessee State University and NC A&T State University and Alcorn State University, over a 40+ year career.
Under Alexander's direction, S.C. State advanced to the MEAC tournament finals seven times, winning five crowns. South Carolina State was named American Sports Wire Black College National Champions three times under Alexander's guidance. His teams received the prestigious recognition in 1996, 1998, and 2000.
He would serve as head coach at Tennessee State from 2003 until 2009, where he amassed 73 overall wins, as well as 53 wins in the Ohio Valley Conference. After leaving “Big Blue”, he arrived back in his home state of North Carolina, taking the helm at North Carolina A&T State University from 2012 until 2016.
In Alexander's first season as head coach, N.C. A&T won the 2013 MEAC Tournament title and made its first NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament appearance in 18 years.
